Membership Categories
We register companies for issuing GS1 (formerly EAN/UPC) barcodes for their products. According to general rule, each item in different size, different color and different packaging will treat as single item, hence it requires a new GS1 barcodes.
GS1 KSA offers membership to our esteemed customers under following two categories:
CATEGORY A:
GS1 KSA registers the company under Category A whose products range is up-to 100,000 items. We issue a GS1 company Prefix as a unique global registration ID to the company and authorize it to use and sell their products with GS1 barcodes on them worldwide.
Detailed Information:
- GS1 KSA issues a GS1 Company Prefix with 7 digits.
- Each product barcode consists of 13 digits.
- A GS1 barcode formation under Category A is as follows;

- Saudi Arabia Code (Country Code) represents fixed 3 digits code assigned for Saudi Arabia from GS1 Global Office.
- GS1 Company Prefix represents a 4 digit company code for the member company registered under Category ‘A’. The value of (Country Code) and (GS1 Company Prefix) together forms a unique Global ID for t he member company termed as ‘GS1 Company Prefix’.
- Product Code represents the range of numbers up-to 100,000 ( 0 – 99,999 ) to use as product code for the products for member company. GS1 KSA recommends to use this range in sequence to get the best utilization of assigned numbers.
- Check digit represents the Check digit, a calculated value to confirm the correct generation of a complete 13 digits GS1 barcode number.
CATEGORY B:
GS1 KSA registers the company under Category B whose products range is up-to 1,000 items. We issue a GS1 company Prefix as a unique global registration ID to the company and authorize it to use and sell their products with GS1 barcodes on them worldwide.
